Funding

How do I fund a project?

If you want to become a project funder click on the green “Help Fund this Project” button on the project page you wish to contribute towards. You will need to enter in your funding amount. Then you will be asked to contribute through the PayPal payment processing site. You do not need a paypal account to pledge to a project, you can use a standard debit/credit card.

If I make a funding contribution, when does FunderThunder charge my account?

Funding contributions are charged at the time they are made but they are not released to the project creators account until a project reaches its funding goal. If the project does not reach its funding goal, your charge is reimbursed back to your credit card or PayPal acocunt.

If the funding goal is not reached do funders owe any money to FunderThunder or the project?

No. If the project fails to reach its funding goal by the project end date no accounts are charged and the project ends.

What if I want to fund a project anonymously?

We don't currently have an anonymous funding process. When you register with FunderThunder you are free to choose any username you wish, and no one has to know who you are other than FunderThunder. Otherwise, we hope you're okay with showing your name and support.

Is my funding contribution amount made public?

No. We aggregate the total funding contributions to show the total amount raised toward the funding goal. The activity page will show a funding activity for the project but not the funder. In the future we may wish to establish some type of reporting to our community on the levels of support provided by particular funders to give recognition to this part of our community, but that will be based on approvals received from the funders at that time.

If I decide to fund a project what do you tell the project administrators about me?

Project creators have access to funders and see your FunderThunder username, your funding amount, and the reward you've selected, if any. We also provide them with the ability to email you. We believe that the more people can communicate the better our community can help each other.

Do I get notified if a project I'm funding meets it project funding goal?

Yes, we will notify you of this and events relevant to the projects you agree to fund.

What forms of payment does ThunderFunder accept?

Currently our credit card/payment processing partner is PayPal. We accept PayPal, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.

Can I change my reward selection?

Currently there is no direct way of doing this. However, you can cancel your pledge if the project has not reached its goal yet and simply make another pledge selecting the reward you want. You can also contact the project creator directly.

How can I change my credit card details before funding ends?

Your credit card or Paypal account is charged at the time you make the funding contribution.

Can I cancel my funding contribution?

You can cancel your funding contribution at any time before the project has reached its goal. Simply login and click on the dashboard link in the header and view your pledged projects. For any project that you have pledged to that has not reached its goal you will see a Cancel & Refund link.

Is my funding contribution tax deductible?

No.  FunderThunder currently does not allow projects from charitable organizations.  We hope to change that soon.

A project I made a funding contribution just reached its funding goal and my credit card was declined, what should I do?

If you are notified that your funding contribution was declined, please log back in to your account and change your payment option. PayPal and FunderThunder will try to assist in resolving the problem if possible. If we are unable to resolve the problem then your funding contribution will be deleted from the system.

I don’t live in the United States can I make a funding contribution to a project?

If you have one of the accepted methods of payment discussed above then you can make funding contributions to the projects listed on FunderThunder.

Project Teams Responsibilities to Funders

How do I know if the people proposing a project are telling the truth about themselves and their project?

Each project hopefully will bring along the start of the crowd who will help fund the project. This should help start the process rolling. Not all project creators have large followings which is one of the advantages FunderThunder brings to their project is the ability to introduce them to our growing base of Funders. So the initial lack of funders should NOT be taken as a red flag that something is wrong with the project or its creators. You should review the project profile, any video or image they may have about the project and themselves. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact them directly and see if you can get the answers you need to make a fully informed decision about making a funding contribution. FunderThunder does not conduct investigations into the various projects which are listed on our service, but if you discover something which is in violation of our guideline, please feel free to contact us at legal@funderthunder.com and we will review the facts you have provided us and determine what steps we deem advisable from that point in regards to that project and their creators. Please use your best judgment in deciding to fund or not fund a project. Our goal at FunderThunder is to help start and grow new businesses and projects and that can only be accomplished with the help of our community of funders.

How do I know a project will be completed?

The project creators are asked to thoughtfully determine their financial needs to make their project a reality. They are then responsible for making sure the project is completed as they discussed on the project profile page. If you have questions about a project’s ability to be completed, please feel free to contact the project creator with your questions. Please feel free to do some web based research about the project creators and team to learn their experience in handling the type of project they are proposing. Some people will be incredibly experienced, but remember some people are looking to change their lives and this project may be helping them to follow a lifelong dream. This is your chance as a Funder to help make people’s dreams come true. Before making a funding contribution please be sure your comfortable with your funding amount and understand that even if everything is exactly as set out in the project profile the project may not be completed due to unforeseen circumstances. We have asked our project creators to communicate with their funders as the project moves forward to keep them aware of how it is progressing. Communication is the key.

If I have questions or comments about a project, how do I communicate with the project creator?

In the middle of each project page there is a little block of information about the project creator. At the bottom of the block of information is a button labeled “Send a message” with a small envelope in front of the words. Click on the link to send a message. For projects you have funded simply login and click on the dashboard link in the header and view your pledged projects. For any project that you have pledged you will see a "contact project owner" link.

Rewards

As a Funder, how will project creators communicate with me to deliver rewards?

The project creator for the projects you decided to fund will be provided with a method to email you and the other funders of the project with information about the rewards, project updates and status reports, and requests for any needed information to fulfill the rewards.
